SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING
34th Week in Ordinary Time : Sunday 23rd November 2025
2 Sam 5:1-3; Ps 121 (122):1-5;
Col 1:12-20; Lk 23:35-43 (Ps Prop)
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. As mentioned in the first reading, all the tribes of Israel recognised David as king over all Israel. But with Jesus Christ, Who is over all things, with nothing else above Him, we are asked to acknowledge Jesus as the true image of God, king above all kings. This is despite the events at Jesus’ crucifixion where onlookers, rulers and soldiers mocked Him while He hung on the Cross. Perhaps today we can reflect on how many times we have acted in a similar way.
Like the criminal on one side of the Cross who responded in blasphemy, we too might have been embarrassed on many counts to acknowledge Jesus as the king of our life. But looking at the other criminal who responded in repentance and was promised salvation by Jesus, do we have the courage to do so similarly, to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the king of our lives?
Thus, we are reminded to humble ourselves to receive the gift of Jesus through His inexhaustible love and mercy.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to never forget that You are the king of my life, and to pattern myself accordingly.
