Dear Lord, draw us to know You closer without reserve as Father, Son and Holy Spirit

4th Week of Lent (B) : Friday 15th March 2024

Wis 2:1, 12-22; Ps. 33:16, 18-21, 23;
Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30 (Ps. Wk. IV)

From the Book of Wisdom we see how godless people are misled by malice. To our practical mind, ancient observation also offers us practical insight to misguided reasoning. In the Allegory of the Cave, Plato describes how prisoners who have lived all their lives chained in a cave, are damned to facing a wall. The prisoners in their whole life watch a shadow being cast onto the wall, and through generations tell a story of what is true for their reality, not knowing that there is actually a source to the shadow which is the light that is behind them and the different objects that move in front of that light.

Jesus, in today’s Gospel, tells the people in the Temple that they know Him but they don’t know where He really came from- they know the shadow but not the source of the shadow, the light. In actual fact, they limit themselves to know only Jesus’ Galilean beginnings. They are incapacitated to ponder and wonder by the regimented laws imposed by religious authorities. To know Jesus is to also know the source- the Father through the Holy Spirit.

Let’s pray for the grace to deepen our knowledge of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit this Lenten Season and for the grace to face the light of love at the end of time.

Dear Lord, draw us to know You closer without reserve as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
