Lord, help me to share Your mercy in my words and actions

4th Week in Ordinary Time (Year A) : Monday 30th January 2023

Heb. 11:32-40; Ps. 30:20,21,22,23,24;
Mk. 5:1-20 (Ps. Wk. IV)

The Letter to the Hebrews gives examples of faithful people from the Hebrew Bible. In this reading, the writer mentioned people who, through faith, had fought battles successfully after suffering great losses. But through faith, they persisted. They suffered greatly and did not receive what they had been promised, for God had provided something better. Am I willing to be faithful when I don’t receive what I hope for?

Jesus was just coming to shore in a boat with His disciples when a man with many demons recognised Him, bowed to Him and called Him “Jesus, Son of the Most High God.” The demons recognised Jesus, although most people did not. This man had been excluded from human community. By sending the unclean spirits into the swineherd, Jesus restored the man’s selfhood. The people were afraid and sent Jesus away. Jesus sent the man back into his community to share the good news of God’s mercy with others. Jesus crossed over the boundaries of the society of that day. We are called to do the same.

Lord, help me to share Your mercy in my words and actions.
