Lord, help me to be willing to tell others about Your love for them

1st Week in Ordinary Time (Year A) : Thursday 12th January 2023

Heb. 3:7-14; Ps. 94 (95):6-7,8-9,10-11;
Mk. 1:40-45 (Ps. Wk. I)

The author of Hebrews was commenting on Psalm 95 and applying it to his audience. This was a reminder to the people that disobedience and wandering from God resulted in God’s anger with the Israelites. The author warned the people not to turn away from God nor to harden their hearts towards God. This was necessary to remain partners with Christ. So too, we must remain close to God if we wish to be Christ’s disciples.

The healing of the leper was a sign of Jesus’ power. Jesus also defied the laws of purity by touching a leper. It was an act of compassion that restored the man to his community; in other words, God did not exclude a leper. A person’s status before God was not defined by their external situation. Despite Jesus’ warning to remain silent, the leper shared the joy of his healing with everyone. Am I so willing to share the joy of Jesus’ love and compassion with others?

Lord, help me to be willing to tell others about Your love for them.
