Ex. 34:29-35; Ps. 98:5-7,9;
Mt. 13:44-46 (Ps.Wk. I)

The parables in today’s Gospel reading illustrate the images of the ‘Kingdom of God’ as in the ‘Hidden Treasure’ and the ‘Pearl of great value’.

The parable of the ‘hidden treasure’ invites us, the bearers of Good News, to rejoice over what we have discovered in Jesus’ teachings and to respond in concrete actions. Similarly, in the parable of the ‘Pearl of great value’, Jesus points out how we can attain the Kingdom of God after some lengthy search.

Both parables focus on the ability to decide and act on it. This calls us to discern, choose and respond in life-giving actions. Thus, a total commitment is expected from those who accept this call to commit themselves to God and His work wholeheartedly and in greater faith and obedience.

This is precisely what Moses did each time he communicated with God. The joy he experienced, as shown in his shining face, reflects what it would be like regarding the oneness with God.

This is how we would be after an encounter with the Almighty, especially in prayer and loving service to those who are marginalised and deprived in society.
