Lord, help me to serve You with passion and enthusiasm, giving our best at all times for Your Greater Glory
Saturday after Epiphany Sunday : 10th January 2026
1 Jn 5:14-21; Ps 149:1-6, 9; Jn 3:22-30 (Ps Wk II)
What are the last words of John the Baptist in today’s Gospel? “He must grow greater, I must grow smaller” (v 30). He understood his role as the forerunner and as the Bridegroom’s best man, who prepares the way for the Anointed One of God to eventually be with His Bride (Israel in the Old Testament, the Church is seen as the New Israel).
In being absolutely clear about his calling, John the Baptist therefore is not disturbed when he hears about the growing ministry and influence of Jesus. In fact, like the Bridegroom’s friend, he is filled with joy that the Bridegroom has now come for His Bride.
In our ministry in the Church, we must be aware and alert at all times, to point to Jesus Christ; and to remember that it is not about us, our successes, or achievements; it is about Him. And like John the Baptist, let us humbly realise that ‘’A man can lay claim only to what is given him from heaven’’ (v 27).
That is to say, that each of us is called by God for a specific calling; and our role is to fulfill that calling given by God. Let us then serve God with passion and enthusiasm, giving our best at all times for the glory of God.
PRAYER: Lord, like John the Baptist, may we serve You wholeheartedly and joyfully, ever willing to fade out of sight, when Your Will is done.
