ST DAMASUS I, Pope, pray for us

2nd Sunday of Advent (A) : Thursday 11th December 2025

Is 41:13-20; Ps 144 (145):1, 9-13a; Mt 11:11-15 (Ps Wk II)

The psalm today presents to us an image of a God who is kind, full of compassion and mercy. We can approach this loving God confidently as we go through life’s journey full of challenges, especially at times of feeling lost, lonely, abandoned and depressed, in situations trying to cope with physical and mental health anguish, family crisis, financial and relationship difficulties. Perhaps the basic emotion that cripples us during this difficult time is fear. It can sometimes torment us and make us begin to doubt the existence of a loving God.

Speaking through Isaiah, the Lord says: “I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; fear not, I will help you.” The divine hand of God signifies God’s direct intervention in our lives, assuring support and strength in times when we feel powerless and helpless. Let faith counter our fear.

In the Gospel, Jesus highlights the Kingdom of God is advancing even in the midst of violence, persecution and suffering precisely because there are true believers who are willing to give their courageous response and unwavering commitment through faith and faithfulness. Jesus encourages us to develop the disposition of an attentive heart and mind, seeking God’s guidance and wisdom as we meditate on the Word of God and cooperate with the Holy Spirit to establish the Kingdom of God here on earth.

PRAYER Jesus, I am weak and in need of Your mercy. Please hear my voice.
