  • TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD : Saturday 6th August 2022

Lord, help me see Your glory in my life

TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD : Saturday 6th August 2022

Dan. 7:9-10,13-14 or 2 Pt. 1:16-19;
Ps. 96:1-2,5-6,9; Lk. 9:28-36 (Ps Wk II)

The first reading describes the second of Daniel’s four visions from God. The first part of the vision is a heavenly judgement scene. In it, Daniel sees the “Ancient of Days”, described as an old, white-haired figure dressed in white, taking his seat on a fiery throne with wheels, to preside over a court in the presence of thousands of people. The books are opened, and the judgement begins.

In the second part of the vision, Daniel sees “one like a son of man” coming from the clouds to the court in white. This special and mysterious figure, who serves as a symbol for the “holy people of the Most High”, receives the heavenly gifts of everlasting dominion, glory and kingship over the nations.

The Gospel passage describes the scene where Jesus, the Son of God, is seen in heavenly glory. He is “changed in appearance”, as He will be in His glorified resurrected body. Appearing with Him are two key ancient figures from the Old Testament, namely Moses, the Lawgiver and Elijah, the Prophet. They are a sign that Jesus will fulfil the expectations of the Hebrew people. The scene climaxes with the voice from the clouds – “This is My Son, the Chosen One. Listen to Him.” (Lk 9:35).

As we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, we have to ask ourselves what it means to us personally. Do I sense the significance of this divine and glorious event? Am I overwhelmed by the scenes described in today’s readings and who Jesus is in my life?

Lord, help me see Your glory in my life.
