Lord, help us listen to Your voice

29th Week in Ordinary Time (C) : Friday 21st October 2022

Eph. 4:1-6; Ps. 23:1-2,3-4ab,5-6;
Lk. 12:54-59 (Ps Wk I)

What is our “vocation”? Our vocation is to live a new and vibrant life and live out of gratitude to God, who has redeemed us in Christ. This new life enables us, in our daily life with fellow believers, to be selfless, gentle, patient, and forbearing with each other’s weaknesses and shortcomings (v 2). As we endeavour to live out our new life credibly, we will become authentic witnesses of the transforming power of the Good News to the world.

St Paul appeals to us to “do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together” (v 3). This unity is God’s gift to us, made possible by the cross of Christ and by the energy of the Holy Spirit. We need to passionately preserve it. This unity transcends and overcomes our differences in race, wealth, education, status, gender, etc. This unity is manifested in the – ONE BODY in Christ, ONE SPIRIT dwelling within us; ONE HOPE awaiting us at Christ’s second coming.

ONE LORD, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer; ONE FAITH, that we embrace. ONE BAPTISM which we have gone through; ONE GOD Who is Father of all, over all, through all and within all (vv 4-6).

How are we living out our vocation? How are we preserving our unity? Let us, in our everyday life, prayerfully live out our lives and interact with fellow believers in ways that are holy and wholesome. By so doing, we will live out our vocation and preserve our unity.

Lord, help us listen to Your voice.
