Lord, give me an open mind and heart
28th Week in Ordinary Time (C) : Thursday 13th October 2022
Eph. 1:1-10; Ps. 97:1,2-3ab,3cd-4,5-6;
Lk. 11:47-54 (Ps Wk IV)
From the very beginning of the world, God has planned our salvation. We have already been chosen to be holy and blameless in His sight, and God has provided the means to us – Jesus. The story of God is one of generosity, kindness, love and grace – that is who and what God is. We should banish images of a harsh and punishing God. If God has been so kind and generous with us, we can repay that grace by being the same way with others. We can also work on learning to be grateful!
Humans tend to persecute the prophets in their midst and praise them long after they are gone. We can think of many great individuals who have gained acceptance and praise only after they were dead. People do not like to be challenged or to have their cherished opinions, prejudices, values and way of life held up for examination or criticism. It is easy to hide behind rules and customs. Jesus criticised those in authority who avoided looking within themselves or going deeper into God’s Word and prevented others from doing so. True humility and openness to God means openness to mind, heart, and willingness to learn and grow. Each day will provide us with many opportunities to do so.
Lord, give me an open mind and heart.
