Lord Jesus, Light of the world, enlighten me in those moments of darkness that may come upon me

4th Week of Lent : Saturday 28th March 2020

Jer. 11:18-20; Ps. 8(7):2-3,9-10,11-12;
Jn. 7:40-53 (Ps Wk IV)

This week we began the second part of Lent. The opportunity given to us during Lent is to pray more reflectively about our everyday life journey as disciples of Jesus. All the gospels for this period are from The Gospel according to John.

It has been said that the Gospels reflect the story of our lives as well as the story of Jesus’ life: we can find ourselves among the crowds who heard Jesus and like them have different perceptions of Jesus, expressed in the different names we give him.

The crowds called him “the Prophet” and the “Messiah”. In our prayer, we may address him as “Lord”, “Lord Jesus”.  Even more so in our popular devotion, we may address him in the symbol of his great love for us: Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Scripture provides us with many names and titles for Jesus. He is God for us in every moment of our lives, and so we continually have different responses to his presence in us and with us.

Lord Jesus, Light of the world, enlighten me in those moments of darkness that may come upon me.
