Having hearts that are a little restless is a precious gift from God

1st Week of Lent, Thursday: 5th March 2020

Est. 4:17; Ps. 138(137):1-3,7-8;
Mt. 7:7-12 (Ps Wk I)

What do we do when we are in trouble and have nowhere to turn? Many people panic, give up or do stupid things. Esther knew exactly what to do: she turned to God, praying for the gift of speech and boldness. Her people were threatened with violence. So,  she had to approach the king to turn his heart away from wickedness. We often treat prayer as if it is the last, desperate, thing we can do. In fact, it should be the very first thing we do. God does not let us down.

Jesus tells us the same thing. We should seek, search, and knock — the door will be opened, and we will find what we seek. We need to be persistent! Weak, half-hearted prayer will not do — and the intention of our hearts must be right.

There are two kinds of believers — those who are content with things just as they are, and those who become seekers. Remember, it is the seekers who encounter God and grow in wisdom. Having hearts that are a little restless is a precious gift from God.

Lord, may I seek Your face always.
