Love is always revealed in deeds rather than words

3rd Sunday of Easter (C) : 1st May 2022

Acts 5:27b-32, 40b-41
Ps. 29:2,4,5-6,11-12a & 13b;
Rev. 5:11-14; Jn. 21:1-19 (or 1-14)
(Ps Wk III)

Filled with the Spirit, the Apostles zealously proclaimed Jesus and performed miracles. Dragged before the council, they were ordered to be silent about Jesus. They refused, insisting that it is better to obey God than to obey human beings. They joyfully went on their way.

We are often faced with similar situations, but we cannot be silent, especially in the face of injustice.  The vision from Revelation was a glorious portrayal of the majesty and power of God and Christ – all power and authority are theirs, and theirs is the voice to which we should listen.

The strange appearance of Jesus on the Sea of Galilee carries a couple of messages. The net full of fish that did not break symbolises the ingathering of souls at the end of the age. The net is big, and there is plenty of room, so we should be hopeful and joyful.

Peter denied Jesus three times, so Jesus asked him three times if he loved him. To every affirmative answer, Jesus commanded him to feed the sheep and tend the lambs. In other words, show this love in the way he cared for his flock. Love is always revealed in deeds rather than words.

Lord, may my faith and love be revealed in my deeds.
