God sees, hears, cares, draws nears, and saves

32nd Week in Ordinary Time : Tuesday 12th November 2019

Wis 2:23-3:9; Ps. 34(33):2-3,16-17,18-19;
Lk. 17:7-10 (Ps Wk IV)

If you had escaped from a kidnapper at a diving site in Sabah, or got out alive from a terrorist-bombed event — you would know what it is to praise God for deliverance in answer to prayer.

The Psalmist, having been delivered, says that — “at all times” he will praise God; praise for God will “always” be on his lips (v 1).

How does deliverance work?  If we are wicked, the Psalmist says, the Lord will turn His face “against” us.  And more than that, the Lord will “destroy” the remembrance of the wicked from the earth (v 16).

However, if we are just, what will happen? The Lord will turn His eyes to us (v 15); the Lord will turn His ears to our appeal (v 15); and the Lord will hear us when we call and rescue us in all our distress (v 17).

Beyond those who are just, the Lord is “close to the broken-hearted; and will save those whose spirit is crushed” (v 18).

Let us remember to persevere in living a just life.  And if, at times, living this just life cause us to be broken-hearted and crushed in spirit — let us call to the Lord, Who sees, Who hears, Who cares, Who draws nears, and Who saves.

Lord, let us be among the faithful who will live with You in love.
