Lord, help me to enter Your eternal home
31st Week in Ordinary Time : Friday 8th November 2019
Rom. 15:14-21; Ps. 98(97):1,2-4;
Lk. 16:1-18 (Ps Wk III)
Is Jesus exhorting us to be dishonest as the steward is dishonest in today’s Gospel? Not so, Jesus is encouraging us to be like the steward in his attitude of diligent preparation for the future. The steward, as many business people today, is willing to put time and effort into securing a better position for his future. Yet this position will last less than 100 years. Would it not be a good idea for us to prepare now for what will last forever?
So how do we prepare for a position in an eternal home? A key part is spending time with Jesus today. There are many ways to do this .. supporting people in need, contemplating Scripture or reflecting back at the end of the day with Jesus — freely expressing to Jesus my desires, hurts, hopes … and then listening to Him. This is not easy to do in a busy world. Yet, the more we spend time with Christ, the more we become like Him, the more we want to share the love He is sharing with us.
St Paul, we hear, has personally felt God’s mercy at work in his life and he passionately wants other people to know this love. What is one way I can share this love today?
Lord, help me to enter Your eternal home.
