Daily Word Of God

Luke 19:41-44

As Jesus drew near Jerusalem and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it and said, ‘If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden from your eyes!

‘Yes, a time is coming when your enemies will raise fortifications all round you, when they will encircle you and hem you in on every side; they will dash you and the children inside your walls to the ground; they will leave not one stone standing on another within you, because you did not recognize the moment of your visitation.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In a moment of extreme sadness, Jesus (the all-powerful God) felt completely powerless to avert the disaster that was to befall Jerusalem.

  • Sometimes when misfortune befalls us, we wonder if God cares. In such times, He is actually standing by feeling our pains and trials, but helplessly witnessing the calamity we brought on to ourselves.

  • Today, let us pray for the grace to be receptive to God’s presence in the trials of our lives. Speak to Him personally.
