Daily Word Of God

Mark 2:23-28

One sabbath day Jesus happened to be taking a walk through the cornfields, and his disciples began to make a path by plucking ears of corn as they went along. And the Pharisees said to him, ‘Look, why are they doing something on the aabbath day that is forbidden?’

And he replied, ‘Did you never read what David did in his time of need when he and his followers were hungry – how he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the loaves of the offering which only the priests are allowed to eat, and how he also gave some to the men with him?’

And he said to them, ‘The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is master even of the sabbath.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The “sabbath” is a day set aside to praise God, His work of creation, and His saving actions.

  • Do we honour the Lord in the way we treat our neighbours when celebrating the Lord’s Day?  Withholding mercy and kindness when there are human needs on the Sabbath or at any time is neither pleasing to God nor consistent with worshipping God.

  • Examine the way you worship God and the way you treat othersg. your family members, friends, employee, domestic helper, neighbour etc.  Do you treat them with mercy and kindness as God treats you?
