Daily Word Of God

Luke 6:20-26

Fixing his eyes on his disciples Jesus said: ‘How happy are you who are poor: yours is the kingdom of God.

‘Happy are you who are hungry now: you shall be satisfied.

‘Happy are you who weep now: you shall laugh.

‘Happy are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the Son of man.  Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, for your reward will be great in heaven. This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets.

‘ But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now.
‘ Alas for you who have your fill: you shall go hungry.

‘Alas for you who laugh now: you shall mourn and weep.

‘Alas for you when the world speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • To be a good Christian and not to compromise and accept worldly values is never easy.

  • But, Jesus assures us, “Stay with me and I will stay with you. And you will be blessed with more than you could imagine. ”In the long run, we are winners with Jesus.

  • If we go the other way and allow ourselves to be lured by riches, power prestige and self-indulgence, then what? Yes, there will be profit and pleasure and short-term gains. But will you have inner peace?
