Daily Word Of God
Luke 4:31-36
Jesus went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath. And his teaching made a deep impression on them because he spoke with authority.
In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and it shouted at the top of its voice, ‘Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.’
But Jesus said sharply, saying, ‘Be quiet! Come out of him!’ And the devil, throwing the man down in front of everyone, went out of him without hurting him at all. Astonishment seized them and they were all saying to one another, ‘What teaching! He gives orders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- The arrogant demons in the possessed man were trying to challenge Jesus, but in reality they were powerless because Jesus is the Son of God.
- When Jesus spoke the “Words”, their power dispelled the demons from inhabiting the man. The demons had to leave because they cannot co-exist with Jesus’ divine Words.
- The Truth of God’s Word is found in its fullest expression in the person, life and teachings of Jesus. This is now contained in the Revealed Word of God in Sacred Scriptures. Are we open to be transformed by God’s Word in our daily living?
