Daily Word Of God

Luke 21:34-36

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened by debauchery and drunkenness and the cares of life, and that day will come upon you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come down on all those living on the face of the earth.

‘Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen, and to hold your ground before the Son of man.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us not to be consumed by the materialistic and secular ways of living that is very attractive, but pushes God into the background of our lives.

  • Jesus warns us not to succumb to worldly attractions at the expense of our faith and our Church’s teachings.  He wants us to be vigilant in the way we live our faith daily.

  • Jesus also reminds us to pray for the graces of perseverance in our faith so that we will not allow the temptations of the world to weaken our resolve to live more fully in God’s ways.
