Daily Word Of God

Matthew 25:14-15, 19-21

Jesus spoke this parable to his disciples: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a man about to go abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one, each in proportion to his ability. Then he set out on his journey.

‘Now a long time afterwards, the master of those servants came back and went through his accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more. “Sir,” he said, “you entrusted me with five talents; here are five more that I have made.” His master said to him, “Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you are trustworthy in small things; I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master’s happiness.”

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel Jesus reminds us of our need to “be responsible for what God has entrusted to us”. The wise will be praised and rewarded for making good returns; the foolish and lazy will be punished for being irresponsible in their living.

  • God gives each one of us different talents/blessings. We must use them wisely and not exclusively for ourselves and our families but inclusively for the common good of all.

  • Have you been using your God given talents for God’ service to glorify Him and edify others? When God sees how we are using our talents for His greater glory He will bless us and our loved ones even more abundantly.
