Daily Word Of God

Luke 19:11a, 12-13, 15-17, 26

While the people were listening Jesus said, ‘A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and then return. He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, telling them, “Trade with these, until I get back.” ’

‘Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for those servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading. The first came in, “Sir”, he said, “your one pound has brought in ten.” He replied, “Well done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very small thing, you shall have the government of ten cities.”

‘I tell you, to everyone who has will be given more; but anyone who has not will be deprived even of what he has.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus’ parable speaks about investing money, but in reality it is about how we should be “investing” our lives.

  • Far more important than ‘how to invest your money’ or the ‘quality of your investments’ is ‘how to invest your life’ and the ‘quality of your life’. Is your life Christ-centred? How much quiet time do you spend with Jesus?

  • What is your ‘investment strategy’ for life? Are your returns short-term benefits to be enjoyed on earth only? Or are they everlasting which you can continue to enjoy in heaven for all eternity. Ponder on these truths of the faith.
