Daily Word Of God

Luke 4:31-37

Jesus went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath.  And his teaching made a deep impression on them because his word carried authority.

In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and he shouted at the top of his voice, ‘’Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.’

But Jesus rebuked it, saying, ‘Be quiet! Come out of him!’ And the devil, throwing the man into the middle, went out of him without hurting him at all. Astonishment seized them and they were all saying to one another, ‘What is it in his words? He gives orders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.’ And the news of him travelled all through the surrounding countryside.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus has the divine power to cast our “demons” in our lives. “Demons” may not necessary mean literally demonic spirits.  We may have the “demons of secularism” that possess us with pride of wanting to possess more material wealth, so as to be recognized in society and the like.

  • We need to be humble enough to know that we have such “demons of secularism” within us. Are we willing to cry out to God and beg Him to free us of such demons?

  • If we do, then what should we “avoid and get rid” off in our daily living and how should we perceive the world and change our “self-image” in order to live in God’s ways?
