Daily Word Of God

Matthew 11:20-24

Jesus began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because they refused to repent.

‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Still, I tell you that it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.

‘And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shall be flung down to hell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet. Still, I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel Jesus rebukes the cities of Chorazin and Bethsaida because the people remained cold towards the Good News and did not repent even after many miracles have been done for them.

  • Jesus is challenging us to search our hearts and look at our sinful ways and anything that hinder us from hearing His Word and doing His Will.

  • Do you receive God’s word with faith and obedience or with doubt and indifference? Speak to the Lord from your heart and tell Him what is hindering you to walk in His way of Truth and do His will.
