Daily Word Of God

Matthew 8:5-10,13

When Jesus went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him. ‘Sir,’ he said, ‘my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.’ Jesus said to him, ‘I will come myself and cure him.’  The centurion replied, ‘Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and my servant will be cured. For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, “Go,” and he goes; to another, “Come here,” and he comes; to my servant, “Do this,” and he does it.’

When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, ‘In truth I tell you, in no one in Israel have I found faith as great as this.’ And to the centurion Jesus said, ‘Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.’ And the servant was cured at that moment.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • How do you respond when God seems to be distant and silent when you need Him most in your desperation, and He does not seem to be answering your prayers? Does it shake your faith in God’s mercy and goodness?

  • This Gospel assures us that Our Lord God will come to our help and will never fail us when we dare to entrust our life’s concerns and pains in His hands.

  • God’s primary concern is the salvation of our souls in that He wants us to enter into eternal life with Him when we die. God’s offer is open to anyone who comes to Him in faith.
