Daily Word Of God

Luke 2:16-21

The shepherds hurried away to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw the child they repeated what they had been told about him, and everyone who heard it was astonished at what the shepherds said to them.

As for Mary, she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as they had been told.

When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • We too have heard the Good News of the birth of Jesus – the incarnation of God – into our lives proclaimed to us in different ways. Do we share them with great zeal and joy like the shepherds, with our family, neighbours and those around us?

  • Like Mary do we ponder on the Good News that offers eternal life? Better still, do we set aside time each day to ponder and pray so that we become more conscious of how we ought to live the Good News daily?

  • Like the Shepherds let us thank and glorify God for announcing to us and for choosing us to be His messengers to all peoples.
