Daily Word Of God

Luke 11:14-18a, 20, 23

Jesus was driving out a devil and it was dumb; and it happened that when the devil had gone out the dumb man spoke, and the people were amazed. But some of them said, ‘It is through Beelzebul, the prince of devils, that he drives devils out.’ Others asked him, as a test, for a sign from heaven; but, knowing what they were thinking, he said to them,

‘Any kingdom which is divided against itself is heading for ruin, and house collapses against house. So, too, with Satan: if he is divided against himself, how can his kingdom last? But if it is through the finger of God that I drive devils out, then the kingdom of God has indeed caught you unawares.

‘Anyone who is not with me is against me; and anyone who does not gather in with me throws away.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus had driven a devil out of a dumb man. Instead of being moved by the divine act and be drawn to faith in Jesus as our Saviour, the Jews remained blind and chose to interpret the event as demonic.

  • How positive are we in interpreting the good that people do and the happy events that happen in our daily living?  If we cannot be positive we may cause dissention and division in relationships and in the community.

  • Pray for the grace of the Spirit to be an instrument of peace, truth and love to others in our daily living.  Be Christ to others at all times by becoming more fully aware that you are the ambassador of His Good News.
