First week in Lent: Thursday 2nd March, 2023

Daily Word Of God

Matthew 7:7-12

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. Everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks will have the door opened.

‘Is there anyone among you who would hand his son a stone when he asked for bread? Or would hand him a snake when he asked for a fish? If you, then, evil as you are, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

‘So always treat others as you would like them to treat you; that is the Law and the Prophets.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel Jesus assures us that when we ask our heavenly Father for anything, He will give us the “best” of all that we need in this life.

  • We only need to ask in a spirit of complete trust and dependence on God and leave the outcome of our prayers in His providence.

  • What do you ask of God this Lent? Are you ready for what God has in store for you? Reflect on your life and have a heart-to-heart talk with the Lord.
