Daily Word Of God

John 20:2-8

On the first day of the week Mary of Magdala came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,’ she said, ‘and we don’t know where they have put him.’

So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first; he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in. Simon Peter, following him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying on the ground and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Peter and the Beloved Disciple, rushed to the tomb when Mary of Magdala informed them that she has seen the Risen Lord. While both loved Jesus, it was John, the beloved disciple, who saw and believed.

  • All of us love Jesus, but some of us love Him in a personal way and are able to live a life that mirrors such love for Jesus while other believers may not have the same experience.

  • Ponder on how you are able to share your love for Jesus personally and how at times this personal love gives you much strength in times of your trials, and joy in times when you are able to share Him with others.
