Daily Word Of God

Matthew 11:2-6, 7a, 10-11

John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?’ Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor; and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.’

Jesus began to talk to the people about John, ‘He is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare your way before you. In truth I tell you, of all the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel Jesus declares John the Baptist as the greatest prophet. He prepared the world for the coming of the Messiah, the salvation of all mankind, even though it cost him his martyrdom.

  • Like John, we must set our hearts and minds to love and serve Jesus wholeheartedly and be faithful witnesses of His love and truth of salvation even if this demands much sacrifices and pain.

  • Are you ready to witness to Christ’s truth and love to your family, colleagues and the people God has placed in your life? Ask Jesus to make you a faithful herald of His peace, truth and love.
