Daily Word Of God
Matthew 17:10-13
As they came down from the mountain the disciples put this question to Jesus, ‘Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?’
He replied, ‘Elijah is indeed coming, and he will set everything right again; however, I tell you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him as they pleased; and the Son of man will suffer similarly at their hands.’
Then the disciples understood that he was speaking of John the Baptist.

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- John the Baptist proclaimed the need for repentance from sinful ways. In doing so, he opened the hearts of people to be more receptive to the Good News that Jesus proclaimed.
- John too had to discern whether Jesus was the true Messiah whom all of Israel was waiting for. He saw Jesus and recognised Him as the Messiah because his heart was passionately searching Him.
- How serious are we in our search of the Truth of Jesus during this Advent season? How have we been “hope and peace” to others during the first two weeks of Advent? Will we be instruments of “joy” in the third week of Advent? How are you pointing others to Jesus?
