Daily Word Of God

Matthew 1:1-2a, 6b, 11b, 16-17

Roll of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham:

Abraham fathered Isaac ….

David fathered Solomon ….

Then the deportation to Babylon took place.

Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary; of her was born Jesus who is called Christ.

The sum of generations is therefore: fourteen from Abraham to David; fourteen from David to the Babylonian deportation; and fourteen from the Babylonian deportation to Christ.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • There were 42 generations from Abraham to the time when Jesus was born. We are not even familiar with many of Jesus’ ancestors.

  • Whether they were important personalities or not is secondary. What is important is that they were uniquely created as part of God’s plan of salvation. Each had a unique role to play.

  • In the same way, each of us is uniquely created to fulfill God’s Plan. Are we aware of our mission?  Ponder on this truth and ask yourself, “How is God challenging me to live out my role in God’s plan of salvation for all peoples”?
