Daily Word Of God

Matthew 21:23-27

Jesus had gone into the Temple and was teaching, when the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him and said, ‘What authority have you for acting like this? And who gave you this authority?’ In reply Jesus said to them, ‘And I will ask you a question, only one; if you tell me the answer to it, then I will tell you my authority for acting like this. John’s baptism: where where did it come from, heaven or man?’

And they argued it out this way among themselves, ‘If we say from heaven, he will retort, “Then why did you refuse to believe him?” but if we say from man, we have the people to fear, for they all hold that John was a prophet.’

So their reply to Jesus was, ‘We do not know.’ And he retorted, ‘Nor will I tell you my authority for acting like this.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The Pharisees opposed Jesus because they preferred personal gains to the truth and submission to God’s Will. They openly questioned Jesus to discredit his claim as the Messiah.

  • When we are in a dilemma of choices, how often do we make the right choice in favour of God’s Will?  Do I follow God’s will or my will?

  • Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the LifeContemplate on this truth and ask the Lord of Life to let His light shine in your heart and mind so that you may know the Truth and Will for your and thus find freedom and joy in living in God’s kingdom.
