Daily Word Of God

Matthew 11:16-19

Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn’t dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn’t be mourners.

‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks us to get in touch with the deepest desires of our hearts to find out what they are. Are our hearts filled and founded on our love for God?

  • If so, how do we perceive people and the world around us? Do we see them from God’s perspective of their need for God’s Love that we are called to share?

  • How much do we love God? How spiritual and God centred are we in our daily living? Do we pray meaningfully, share generously, and care compassionately all because we love God?
