Daily Word Of God

Matthew 11:16-19

Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn’t dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn’t be mourners.

‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus’ parable reprimands those who continue to rationalise and justify their lukewarm attitude and behaviour in the practices of their faith.

  • We are challenged to face the prejudices and perversities of our lives and begin to listen to God’s Words more wholeheartedly and live more fully in God’s ways.

  • Are we willing to accept Jesus’ challenges during this Advent season so as to prepare ourselves to receive Jesus into our hearts and homes more           warmly and hospitably during Christmas?
