Daily Word Of God

Luke 10:38-42

Jesus came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking. Now Martha, who was distracted with all the serving, came to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell her to help me.’

But the Lord answered, ‘Martha, Martha,’ he said, ‘you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part, and it is not to be taken from her.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s gospel Jesus points out that while there is a need for ‘doing’ and ‘serving’, more importantly, we are called to be more in tune with God who is communicating with us in different situations of our daily living.

  • Ponder on the way you live your life daily and ask yourself, “Am I more inclined to be like Martha or Mary?”

  • What attracts me to be more like Martha or Mary?  What does this reveal about the person that I am?  What is God challenging me to do with my present life?
