Daily Word Of God

Matthew 23:23-26

Jesus said: ‘Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay your tithe of mint and dill and cumin and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law – justice, mercy, good faith! These you should have practiced, those not neglected. You blind guides, straining out gnats and swallowing camels!

‘Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of cup and dish and leave the inside full of extortion and intemperance. Blind Pharisee! Clean the inside of cup and dish first so that it and the outside are both clean.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Do our attitudes resemble the Pharisees? We give much attention and care to how we appear physically and emotionally, but we care less about our spiritual needs and relationship with our Lord.

  • Once we are ‘Spiritually clean’e. our relationship with God is strong, we can be sure that we will also know how to manage and live a more wholesome life where money and possessions do not rob us of our “true happiness” in life.

  • How wholesome and integrated is your daily living? Do you find God at the centre of your life and in important decisions?  Ponder on this truth today.
