St John Bosco, Priest, pray for us

3rd Week in Ordinary Time (C) : Saturday 1st February 2025

Heb 11:1-2, 8-19; (R. Ps.) Lk 1:69-75; Mk 4:35-41 (Ps Wk III)

Our vocations in life are always coloured with hope and anxiety. In fact, every chapter of our age, career, relationship, ministry and endeavor display various intensities of emotions and degrees of confidence. Through all of this myriad experiences, could it be that God is actually shaping our attitude? Biblically, it is by faith that Abraham prospers in his sojourns and settling, we also have Enoch who walked faithfully and humbly with the Lord (Gen 5:24). This attitude is echoed by Prophet Micah “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Mi 6:8)

In the crossing over to the other shore, Jesus and His disciples were in a boat. Not long after, however, a storm came while Jesus was asleep. Fear gripped the disciples. What could they do? Waking Jesus up, they were admonished and astounded too when Jesus calmed everything, including the squall. This one event displays all sorts of reasons and sentiments to give up, but one pertinent attitude surpasses all, our vocation must be anchored in God. In Jesus, we are safely guarded and guided.

Lord Jesus, my hope in You always raises me above the calamities of my selfishness, thank you. I will always raise the cup of thanksgiving to You.
