St Thomas Aquinas, Priest & Doctor, pray for us

3rd Week in Ordinary Time (C) : Tuesday 28th January 2025

Heb 10:1-10; Ps 39:2, 4, 7-8, 10-11
Mk 3:31-35 (Ps Wk III)

The life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus changes how we look at everything. According to the Letter to the Hebrews, ‘His great, endless act of self-giving is accorded in the authentic priestly act. He takes away sin and restores the bond with God in His own person, in His own living experience.’ No more desires of violent or bloody sacrifices for appeasing the wrath of God. In fact, our benevolent God has always provided ways to reconciliation. Our Lord God has governed our days with compassion and grace.

At a glance, the words of Jesus seem harsh at first. On the contrary, He is enlarging our vision of family, brotherhood and sisterhood. This message is concretely articulated by Pope Francis in Fratelli Tutti – “in the aftermath of Covid-19, the global health emergency has helped demonstrate that ‘no one can face life in isolation’ and that the time has truly come to ‘dream, then, as a single human family’ in which we are brothers and sisters all.”

Anyone who does the Will of God is related to us as a family and must be regarded so. This would fulfil the provocative and assuring words of Jesus, that everyone has the potential of becoming the brothers and sisters, and mother of Jesus. When we put on the mind and heart of Christ, every relationship becomes a beautiful invitation to grow mutually and integrally as a dignified person with unique gifts to enrich the family of God.

Lord, gather us as one family as we follow Your Will to support one another.
