Lord, help me to put my total trust in You

25th Week in Ordinary Time (B) : Wednesday 25th September 2024

Prov 30:5-9; Ps 118:29, 72, 89, 101, 104, 163
Lk 9:1-6 (Ps Wk I)

After insisting that the Word of God is true, the author of Proverbs warned the reader not to add to God’s words. He encouraged them to take refuge in God. He then prayed that God would keep him from falsehood and provide him with just enough to eat and clothe himself. He did not want too much or too little – just enough. How many can say that they want just enough and not desire excessively? This requires deep trust in God.

Jesus had begun sharing His power and authority with the disciples. That authority demanded that they not add anything to their clothing or needs. Nothing was added to the power given to them. It was entirely service. He sent them out to the towns and villages to proclaim the Good News and to heal the sick. Healing and preaching were connected just as they are today. In sending, Jesus indicated that He trusted His disciples and in turn, the disciples must trust Him.  When we hear the Word of God and accept it in our hearts, we are healed in many ways. To trust is already breaking the wall of resistance for healing. The disciples had to rely totally on God to lead them to the homes of trustworthy people who would provide them with food and lodging. Though things are very different today, the need to depend totally on God remains pivotal.

Lord, thank you for the trust You have in me; may my total trust of You restore confidence in relationships.
