Lord, thank you for Your great mercy, let me see reality through Your merciful eyes

8th Week in Ordinary Time (Year B) : Thursday 30th May 2024

1 Pt. 2:2-5, 9-12; Ps. 99:2-5;
Mk. 10:46-52 (Ps Wk IV)

Even glancing through the last part of chapter ten in Mark’s Gospel,  we know that this is not just a story about the healing of the blind man. Bartimaeus has been waiting all his life to regain the sight that people perceived was lost forever.   However, it is even more astounding for us to realise how faithfully God is waiting for us to call on His name. Indeed, we can be blinded by our anger, sadness, envy, the guilt that we still hold on to and the life tension that our sight to the graciousness of God is marred. We forget in God all things are possible for us. All that God wants is our little faith.

So let us be like Bartimaeus. Though people try to stop him from calling on Jesus, he is insistent in calling on Him. And because of his faith, God rewards him by restoring his sight. Once he was in darkness, now he is in God’s wonderful light.

We may encounter daily mundane things that distract our focus from God. But let’s remember, as the letter of Peter tells us, that we are God’s people, God’s chosen ones. Our Lord will never turn His back when we call on His name. Christ Jesus knows our difficulties and struggles because He has passed through them before us.

Lord, thank you for Your great mercy, let me see reality through Your merciful eyes.
