Lord, help us to turn our hearts and minds back to You each day - It is our daily resurrection!

Sixth Week of Easter : Wednesday, 8th May 2024

Acts 17:15, 22 — 18:1; Ps. 148:1-2, 11-14;
Jn. 16:12-15 (Ps Wk II)

We too listen to St Paul as he speaks about the nature of God before the Council of Areopagus. He pointed out to the Athenian audience that the deity they revered as an Unknown God was, in fact, the Lord of Heaven and Earth Who gave life to everything. So, we live, move, and exist in Him. There is no excuse to mistake God for images carved and designed by man. The call of God to men everywhere is for their need to repent in light of the day of judgement by Jesus Christ Who had been raised from the dead. His audience, however, treated his speech as mere entertainment for laughter, only a few believed.

The words of St Paul are a serious matter. It was not a personal agenda. He points that we all draw life from God. As we acknowledge our dependence on God, we need to reflect on our response to Him. The truth of our responses, as Jesus pointed to His disciples, is a universal call to repentance or metanoia. It is wide-reaching, extending to each and every one of us. It is a continuation of the work by the Holy Spirit. Amidst our continued struggle against sin, we need to recommit to repentance daily. As God’s mercies are new every morning, we are invited to turn our hearts and minds back to God each day. It is our daily resurrection.

Lord, we believe it is in You that we live, and move, and exist.
