Third Week of Easter : Saturday 20th April 2024

“After this, many of His disciples left Him and stopped going with Him.” Will this be our after Easter experience as well?

The Acts of the Apostles gives us an account of how the churches were in consolation of the Holy Spirit. Nothing was stopping Peter from visiting the newfound faith community and performing miracles. Aeneas, a paralytic man and Dorcas, well known for her good work but died were restored to life by Peter. This brought many more converts to believe in Jesus.

In the episode of Jesus teaching His disciples, He pointed out that the Spirit gives life and His words are life. He forewarned that there were those who did not believe Him and would betray Him. He further clarified that anyone coming to Him could not attribute it to a personal effort but must humbly acknowledge the work of the Father. However, some individualistic enthusiasts were dismayed by Jesus’ open remark and went away. To be witness to eternal life, Jesus demanded His disciples not to settle for second best.

Let’s consider the times when we knowingly choose to be witnesses of Jesus’ words in our life. Consider also the good witnessing that has brought people around us while acknowledging that witness to truth has caused us some pain. Yet we return to the Lord who has the message of eternal life.

Lord God, where else can we go, You have charmed us with eternal life.
