St Joseph, pray for us

Solemnity of ST JOSEPH, spouse of the BVM : Monday 20th March 2023

2 Sam. 7:4-5,12-14,16; Ps. 88:2-5,27,29;
Rom. 4:13,16-18, 22;
Mt. 1:16,18-21,24 or Lk. 2:41-51 (Psalter proper)

“… I am the light of the world.” (Jn. 9:5).

Jesus is the light of the world. As His followers, we are called to reflect the light of Christ in our daily lives. This means we are to be bearers of the Good News to others. Are we Christ’s light to others around us? If we are not, we can be considered ‘blind’ like the Pharisees who were spiritually blind. Their spiritual blindness led them into the rejection of what Jesus taught. Such blindness can only be removed by faith in Jesus, as in the cure of the blind man in today’s Gospel reading.

Removing this blindness also entails a daily conversion and relying on Jesus as the Shepherd. Can we be what the Psalmist said in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd. There is nothing I shall want?” Are we daring enough to admit or acknowledge that Jesus is our Saviour and Lord? If so, this should lead us into loving actions towards the poor and the needy, as Christ did for the blind man.

Lord, You are our shepherd, and with You, there is nothing we shall want.
