18th Week in Ordinary Times : Sunday, 2nd August 2026

God is exceedingly generous. We are invited to come to the waters to drink freely and eat the banquet prepared for us. And more importantly, it does not matter whether we have the money to pay for it or not; for it is a gift. So it is with God’s grace and mercy – we do not earn it, we merely receive it with gratitude. The day when we stop believing in the goodness and kindness of God is the day we begin to wither spiritually.

In Romans, Paul assures us that there is no power in heaven or on earth that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus the Lord. Our fears are unfounded; we cannot ‘lose’ the Lord.

God’s generosity and abundance is evident in the miraculous feeding of the 5,000. The Apostles are at a loss – we ‘only’ have 5 loaves and 2 fish. That is the problem with most people – we focus on lack, on what we do not have. But Jesus sees with God’s eyes – He took the loaves and fish, blessed them and gave thanks, and began to distribute the pieces. There was more than enough for all. Focusing on what we do have, and on the generosity and love of God, would reveal to us that there is enough for all in our world. There need not be haves and have nots.

PRAYER Lord, help me to have greater faith in your loving kindness and generosity.
