11th Week in Ordinary Times : Friday, 19th June 2026

In the Gospel today, Jesus calls us to turn our hearts away from the things of the world and to set our sights on God and the treasures of heaven. His words remind us that the direction of our lives matters. What we seek, desire, and pursue will shape the kind of people we become.

In the first reading, we see how those who led the people of Israel repeatedly turned away from God and did what was displeasing to Him. They sought satisfaction in things that promised immediate results – power, security, and prosperity. Yet these things only brought about their ruin. Their story mirrors the struggles of humanity today. Many continue to seek meaning through status, wealth, influence, and other forms of worldly success, hoping these will bring happiness and fulfillment.

As disciples of Christ, however, we are reminded that true light cannot be found in these pursuits. The only true and lasting light comes from God. When we keep our eyes fixed on Christ, His light guides our path and becomes the source of our peace and joy.

Following Christ means constantly redirecting our hearts back to Him, especially when we are tempted by the distractions and promises of the world. It is a daily choice to trust that God offers something greater than anything the world can give.

PRAYER:   Lord, I pray for courage to keep my eyes fixed on heaven.
