IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY, pray for us
The Immaculate Heart of Mary : Saturday 13th June 2026
Is 61:9-11; (Rp Ps) 1 Sam 2:1, 4-8; Lk 2:41-51 (Ps Wk II)
Isaiah speaks of a people clothed in salvation, rejoicing as a bride adorned for her beloved. This closely reflects the joy of Mary’s heart as she exults in God at her visitation to Elizabeth. In the Gospel, we glimpse the Immaculate Heart of Mary – both radiant with joy and pierced with sorrow. It’s a heart of perfect joy because she holds Jesus, yet pierced with sorrow because she must let Him follow the Father’s Will, even when it surpasses her understanding.
Her joy is not the absence of sorrow; it is the presence of trust. She stored up all these things in her heart and pondered them. She rejoices in the promises of God fulfilled in her Son, yet she also knows the anxiety of losing Him, even if only for three days. Her question to Jesus, “My child, why have You done this to us? See how worried Your father and I have been, looking for You” reveals not doubt, but love – love that seeks, suffers, and trusts.
Mary’s heart holds together what often feels impossible for us – joy in God’s presence and sorrow in not fully understanding His ways. To follow Mary’s heart in daily life is to love with both courage and humility. It means rejoicing in God’s gifts while accepting that His plans may lead us through uncertainty. Like Mary, we are called to seek Christ when He seems distant, to trust when answers are not immediate, and to ponder rather than react.
PRAYER: Joyful and sorrowful Heart of Mary, pray for us.
