Jesus, our Lord and King, we worship and adore You

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE : Sunday 26th November 2023

Ez. 34;11-12,15-17; Ps. 22:1-3a,3b-4,5,6;
1 Cor. 15:20-26,28; Mt. 25:31-46 (Ps. Wk. II)

Today, we celebrate with the whole universal Church the Kingship of Jesus. Unlike the earthly king, Jesus’ Kingdom is inclusive, embracing all. Yet today’s Gospel passage reflects the Last Judgment – in short, whom did we choose (vs. 34, 36)?

The basis for judgment will be whether our LOVE is shown to God’s people. The rewards in Jesus’ Kingdom are given to those who serve unconditionally, which is important.

In Ezekiel 34:11-12, God’s response to the faithless shepherd (v.1-10) is that He Himself will shepherd His flock as in Jer. 23:3-4. Similarly, in vs.15–17, we see the people of power and influence oppressing the poor Israelites. This prophetic Word shows concern for social justice as in Mic 2:1-5.

In the second reading from 1 Cor.15:20-26, Jesus’ resurrection is the assurance of the resurrection of God’s redeemed people. His resurrection is the pledge that ours will follow!

During this process of Christ destroying all dominion and handing over the Kingdom to the Father, Christ must reign (Rev. 20:1-6).

The destruction of death will occur at the end of the Second Coming wherein Jesus will conquer His enemies at the great white throne judgment.

 “Jesus, our Lord and King, we worship and adore You. Give us the grace to love like You in all things and people.”
