Thursday after Ash Wednesday : 19th February 2026

The readings today are a strong reminder that we cannot follow Jesus Christ half-heartedly. In the first reading from Deuteronomy, Moses presents the people of Israel with a stark but honest choice: to follow the Lord’s commands and live, or to turn away and face destruction. Though the language may sound harsh, the truth behind it is simple — true peace, joy, and salvation can only be found in obedience to God’s Will. When we choose disobedience, we inevitably walk the path that leads to emptiness and despair, for apart from God there can be no lasting life or happiness.

In the Gospel, Jesus makes this same truth personal for His disciples. He reminds them that following Him will not be easy. To be His disciple means sharing in His suffering, carrying one’s cross, and even losing one’s life for His sake. There can be no middle ground — discipleship demands complete commitment and trust, even when it leads through pain and sacrifice.

This month, as we pray for children with incurable diseases and all who suffer deeply, we are reminded of the mystery of the Cross — that suffering united with Christ brings redemption and hope. Each of us faces the same choice daily: to follow Christ wholeheartedly, embracing our cross with faith and love, or to seek our own comfort and lose sight of eternal life. May we always choose the way that leads to true life in Him.

PRAYER:  Lord Jesus, I choose wholeheartedly to follow after You every day, carrying my own cross.
