The blind man trusted Jesus and had faith that Jesus would heal him

33rd Week in Ordinary Time : Monday, 16th November 2020

Rev. 1:1-4; 2:1-5; Ps. 1:1-2,3,4,6;
Lk. 18:35-43 (Ps Wk I)

Revelation is filled with much imagery. A blessing was promised to everyone who read these words which, according to John, were meant for the seven churches in Asia.

While John praised the Church in Ephesus for their patient endurance, he chastised them for abandoning the love that they felt at the beginning of their faith journey. They were no longer acting out of Christ’s love. And that is central to our faith. As Jesus taught, we are to love God first and then our neighbour. All else will follow.

The encounter of Jesus with the blind man illustrates what John was writing about — patience, faithfulness, and love. The blind man must have known of Jesus for he followed him calling him “Son of David”, a Messianic title. The blind man was not to be ignored as he repeatedly shouted at Jesus, asking for mercy.

Jesus recognized the faith of the man and healed him, but first, Jesus required the man to tell him what he wanted. We need to know what we want, and we need to be honest with God and state what we want. The blind man trusted Jesus and had faith that Jesus would heal him.

Lord, help me to be honest when I come to You in prayer.
